In the year the mythical Portuguese off-road competition Baja Portalegre celebrated its 30th anniversary, Touratech Portugal gathered at this great party, with an invitation to all their customers to join the Baja Touratech, the class for all the Maxi Trail motorcycles in the competition.
Baja Portalegre was the first ever off-road competition organized in Portugal. In the Motorcycle class all the big names are Portuguese, with António Lopes, António Maio and Mário Patrão taking more than half of the victories in the previous 29 editions.
Portalegre hosted many of the biggest names in motorcycling off-road racing, like Gilles Lalay, Stephane Peterhansel, Cyril Esquirol, Thierry Magnaldi and the two international Baja winners, Alain Perez and Richard Sainct. However, Baja Portalegre is also a landmark to thousands of amateur riders that dream of racing and finishing the event, overcoming the personal challenge of crossing the finish line.
In the first entrance as an official team in Portalegre, the Touratech Portugal Team made a loud debut claiming the win in MaxiBaja class!
At the end of the two race days, the spotlights were all over Rodrigo Amaral and the official BMW F800GS Sport Touratech bike. They had lead the race flag to flag, finishing in an astonishing 8th place overall in the Promo class. With a bike he only had the chance to ride the day before the race, all the tuning was made during the race days. With an increasing confidence in the machine, the pace got faster and faster, with the partial classifications showing the improvements: SS1-40th, SS2-11th and SS3-6th, a race pace that shows the quality of the duo Rodrigo Amaral / BMW F800GS Sport Touratech.
