Touratech Compañero Ultimate – The Suit That Got Me to the Arctic (and Back)

"I wore the Touratech Compañero Ultimate for six weeks on a wild winter ride from Calgary to Tuktoyaktuk, right up to the Arctic Ocean — in February. That’s right, the time of year when your eyelashes freeze and your breath turns to icicles. Temperatures hit -38°C, and somehow I thought, “well, since I’m a motorcycle technician this is when I can go… and that’s when my riding companion was silly enough to agree to join.”

First off, this suit is ridiculously comfortable. I sized it up to fit all the layers I could find (basically dressed like a walking onion), and it still felt great. Protection

I had two falls on ice roads (yes, even with studded tires — ice doesn’t care), and while one set off my separate airbag vest, the jacket and pants took it like champs.

Ventilation & Versatility

This gear went from Arctic deep freeze to spring thaw, and adapted like a pro. Once the sun came out, I opened the vents and it breathed better than most people I know. From -38°C to actual “I-can-feel-my-fingers” weather, this suit handled it all.

After six weeks of riding, freezing, falling, waiting, and even snoozing in the Compañero Ultimate, I can honestly say it’s the best riding gear I’ve ever abused.
