Touratech Compañero Ultimate – The Suit That Got Me to the Arctic (and Back)

Alex “Alyxmoto” Guth is a working world traveler who has called Canada his home for the past seven years. His passion for motorcycle adventures transcends continents and brands. As the founder of Alyxmoto Inc., he has welcomed world travelers such as Lisa and Simon Thomas, Helge Pedersen, and of course Mr. Martin Brucker into his workshop.

His relationship with Touratech goes back to its very beginnings.

"I wore the Touratech Compañero Ultimate for six weeks on a wild winter ride from Calgary to Tuktoyaktuk, right up to the Arctic Ocean — in February. That’s right, the time of year when your eyelashes freeze and your breath turns to icicles. Temperatures hit -38°C, and somehow I thought, “well, since I’m a motorcycle technician this is when I can go… and that’s when my riding companion was silly enough to agree to join.”
Luckily, this gear had my back. And my front. And everything else.

Fit & Comfort

First off, this suit is ridiculously comfortable. I sized it up to fit all the layers I could find (basically dressed like a walking onion), and it still felt great. When the temperatures went up a bit, I just snugged everything down and the armor actually stayed put — no wandering kneepads, no floating elbow protectors.

Honestly, I lived in this thing. At one point I had to wait out a blizzard — road closed, nothing to do but hang tight. So I did what any cold, tired rider would do: I napped in my riding suit. And it was cozy enough that I didn’t even care.

Materials & Durability

This thing is built like a tank — but like, a comfortable tank. It’s made from top-tier GORE-TEX and Armacor, and after six weeks of freezing wind, snow, road salt, ice, gravel, and the occasional nap on the ground... it still looked solid.

Yes, the light gray color got dirty, but that just proves you’re using it. Plus, it keeps you cooler in the sun. Fashion and function.

Protection

I had two falls on ice roads (yes, even with studded tires — ice doesn’t care), and while one set off my separate airbag vest, the jacket and pants took it like champs.

“The protection is in the right places” isn’t just a brochure line — it’s true. Nothing shifted, and more importantly, nothing broke (on me). Would I trust this setup again in sketchy conditions? Absolutely.

Ventilation & Versatility

This gear went from Arctic deep freeze to spring thaw, and adapted like a pro. Once the sun came out, I opened the vents and it breathed better than most people I know. From -38°C to actual “I-can-feel-my-fingers” weather, this suit handled it all.

Final Thoughts

After six weeks of riding, freezing, falling, waiting, and even snoozing in the Compañero Ultimate, I can honestly say it’s the best riding gear I’ve ever abused. It’s tough, comfortable, adjustable, breathable, and built for people who don’t cancel rides just because the world turns into a snow globe.

If you’re planning a proper adventure — the kind that makes your friends question your sanity — this is the gear you want. It didn’t just survive the Arctic. It thrived."
