TRAVEL SCENE | GS EUROPE TEAM GERMANY 1 – TRANSITALIA MARATHON 2024

The 10th Transitalia Marathon took place from 20 to 27 September 2024. Among the participants: Michael Hesse and his team-mates from GS Europe Team Germany 1.

Mirco Urbinati - founder and organiser of the Transitalia Marathon - who is supported by his wife Noemi and a team of over 80 helpers, has once again succeeded this year in attracting hundreds of riders from all over the world to Italy and inspiring them with the beauty, culture and traditions of his country. Just a few minutes after the booking portal opened, all the starting places were once again fully booked.

The route of the Transitalia Marathon 2024 took us from Rimini to Rome in five stages. We passed through numerous historic towns and picturesque villages along the way. At the end of each stage, the historic towns of Città di Castello, Nocera Umbra, Cascia and Rieti and their inhabitants awaited us, celebrating our arrival together with the riders - a very emotional moment every time.

The evening events held at the stage finishes are important elements of the unique atmosphere of the Transitalia Marathon. Every evening, the riders, teams, volunteers and organisers come together to share their experiences, celebrate the community and make new friends. In addition to the typical regional dishes and wines, local clubs provide entertainment before most of the riders go to bed in time to be fit for the next stage the following morning.

This time, the stages covered around 1,000 kilometres of challenging off-road routes with muddy sections due to the weather, steep climbs, rocky descents, tough gravel sections but also picturesque and winding roads through some of the most beautiful, remote and breathtaking landscapes in the regions of Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Marche, Abruzzo, Lazio and the imposing mountain ranges of the Apennines.

Another highlight awaited us at the end of the last stage - the ‘Night Run’ in Rome. Under the patronage of the Italian state police and organised by the State Police Motorcycle Club, hundreds of motorcyclists rode through the historic centre of Rome, past the most famous sights such as the Colosseum and St Peter's Square. We were able to experience the atmosphere of the ‘Eternal City’ exclusively and in a very special way!

For our GS Europe Team Germany 1, this was an unforgettable conclusion to a challenging and unique event. And it was certainly not our last time participating, as we are already looking forward to the next edition of the Transitalia Marathon.

The long-standing close partnership with Touratech and the specially customised suspension solutions, protectors and, last but not least, the rider equipment once again played a decisive role in ensuring that our team was optimally equipped. Thank you very much!
