Dirk Schäfer
Saudi Arabia - Behind the curtain
Long hidden, Saudi Arabia is opening up to travelers. Dirk Schäfer is one of the first to explore the country and finds unexpected wonders: modern megacities and traditional cultures venturing into the future, as well as impressive UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the desert and the majestic Hejaz Mountains. Following in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia, he discovers historical sites and an old railroad line that reveals deep connections to Germany. His journey takes him through gigantic volcanic fields and to mysterious, ancient megabuildings. On a motorcycle, equipped for a film documentary, Schäfer and his experienced companions experience one of their riskiest expeditions. Despite the challenges, they encounter overwhelming hospitality that reflects the country's transformation.
Nick Sanders
The Final Ride
"The Final Ride" is a 4k film by Nick Sanders, showcasing his 8th global motorbike circumnavigation, marking his 11th overall by motorbike and bicycle. He rode the Yamaha Ténéré 700 across 50,000 kms and 24 countries in 7 months, solo. Without a crew, Nick filmed and edited the journey himself, framing it around his experiences before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. The film contemplates the temporariness of life and the importance of cooperation for the future. It contrasts the tangible experience of world travel with the emerging reliance on virtual reality, questioning the essence of reality and human resilience.

His book became a bestseller and made him the first influencer for motorcycle adventurers, including Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. Dieter Schneider, initiator of the Fellows Ride movement for depression relief, followed Simon's route and invited him to the first Fellows Ride podcast, where the idea was born to honor Simon as the first "Honorary Fellow". He will receive this award on June 1, 2024 at the Touratech Travel Event.
