TOURATECH SUSPENSION | UPGRADE FOR THE HIGH-END-SUSPENSION
GENERATION CHANGE
EXTREME becomes EXTREME2: Touratech Suspension's top suspension line is getting a comprehensive upgrade. Numerous important innovations have been introduced under the new label, ensuring even better performance under the toughest conditions. On this page you can find more information about the new Extreme2 suspension and the possible application to your Adventure Bike.
Touratech Suspension has been offering high-quality suspension elements for touring enduro bikes in the Travel range since 2012. In three versions from Level 1 to Level 2 to Extreme, you as adventure rider have the option of upgrading the suspension of your machine to suit your own personal requirements.
Common to all products in the series is the extremely robust design and the special Touratech setup for use when travelling with high payloads. The separating piston design effectively prevents the mixing of damper oil and nitrogen. Touratech is now replacing the top-of-the-range Extreme version with the new Extreme 2 suspension elements with numerous pioneering improvements.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES FOR MINIMISING INTERNAL FRICTION
The 46-millimetre-thick damper piston, which is now equipped with a ‘low friction’ piston band, boasts extremely low friction. The separating piston of the damper also has additional steering, which supports low-friction sliding. All in all, these innovative technical solutions result in a previously unrivalled sensitive response behaviour.
A high-end piston rod with a DLC coating (DLC = diamond like carbon) is available on request. This surface treatment is characterised by particular hardness and a low coefficient of friction. As a result, its surface is not only extremely resistant to scratches, but also contributes to a noticeably lower breakaway torque due to less friction in the seal - which leads to even finer response behaviour.

ADVANCED PDS FUNCTION FOR HIGHEST PUNCH-THROUGH-RESISTANCE
The Extreme2 generation also sets itself apart from conventional suspension struts in terms of puncture resistance thanks to its superior technology. The enhanced PDS function has a newly designed hydraulic stop that works even more precisely and reliably prevents bottoming out. The two-part reservoir has also been enlarged and therefore offers more oil volume and an optimised cooling surface for effective heat dissipation. The noticeable result is consistent damper performance right up to extreme conditions.
PRECISE FINE TUNING OVER A WIDE
RANGE
While the rebound damping on the Extreme2 elements is also adjusted in the tried-and-tested manner at the base of the shock absorber, the compression adjustment on the reservoir now offers a significantly larger adjustment range, which enables precise and reproducible individual set-ups. Adjustment is even easier thanks to the now differently coloured controls for adjusting the compression damping in the low and high-speed range.

Separate adjustment of the compression damping in the high and low speed range via an extra-large interval for effective setup adjustments.

SERVICEABLE LONG-LIFE COMPONENTS
Like all suspension elements from Touratech Suspension, the new Extreme2 shock absorbers are of course also fully serviceable.
From time to time or after intensive use on long-distance journeys, the shock absorbers can be dismantled and overhauled, after which they are as good as new again for consistent performance and long-lasting riding pleasure.

BMW R 1300 GS und Adventure
PLUG & TRAVEL EXTREME2 FOR R 1300 GS AND ADVENTURE – NEXT LEVEL
Offroad performance combined with the finest, electronically controlled response behaviour characterises the semi-active Plug & Travel Extreme2 suspension struts, which are currently also being developed for the latest generation of boxers.

The Touratech Suspension Plug & Travel Extreme2 electronic suspension will also be available for the BMW R 1300 GS and its sister model Adventure with the semi-active Dynamic ESA suspension from autumn 2025. This will allow adventure riders to penetrate performance areas that are closed off with standard material and enjoy maximum comfort even under difficult conditions on demanding tracks and with high payloads.
Just like the conventional suspension elements, Touratech will also raise the electronic suspension struts to the Extreme2 level as part of an extensive tech upgrade. The numerous improvements include the new damper piston with the low-friction ‘Low Friction’ piston band, an additional steering for the separating piston, an optimised PDS and a two-part compensation reservoir. The new Plug & Travel Extreme2 suspension elements build on this extremely powerful hydraulic basis. Their centrepiece is the patented electronic valve. This varies the oil flow depending on the road surface conditions and thus adjusts the damping properties in real time.

The electronic components have also undergone intensive further development: the Plug & Travel Extreme2 suspension struts for the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure will also have a newly developed solution for practical adaptive vehicle height control. When stationary, the machine is significantly lowered so that the feet can reliably reach the ground. As soon as the machine picks up speed, the ride height is reached so that the full suspension travel is available. Shortly before coming to a standstill, the ride height is automatically lowered again. The working range of 30 millimetres on the Plug & Travel Extreme2 suspension struts corresponds to the series, but the adjustment is significantly faster due to the robust design.
In keeping with the ‘Plug & Travel’ claim, the existing plugs are simply reused during installation and operation is carried out as usual using the switches on the handlebars. All riding mode settings are still available.
The components are currently in the development phase and are already being extensively tested internally. The first samples are already being used for training purposes at the Travel Event, and the specialists at Touratech Suspension expect them to be ready for the market in autumn 2025.

BMW R 1250 GS
»LIMITED EDITION« SHOCK ABSORBER FOR R 1250 GS – OFFROAD WITHOUT LIMITS
The new ‘Limited Edition’ suspension is Touratech Suspension's offer to riders who are looking for a new dimension of riding experience with their R 1250 GS. The ultra-robust conventional suspension struts are predestined as a replacement for standard DDA suspension - for tough off-road use and demanding adventure trips.

The cutting-edge technology of the new Extreme2 series is now also available in a Limited Edition for all BMW R 1250 GS models from 2013 onwards. The new electronic spring preload in a compact design enables quick and uncomplicated installation without the need for an external EPA pump. Robust, space-saving and made for riders who make no compromises. Cancellation plugs are included in the tuning package for vehicles with electronic DDA suspension. These fit perfectly on the existing plugs and avoid error messages in the cockpit.
Why convert? Conventional suspension elements are superior to semi-active suspension in really difficult terrain. This applies in particular to the numerous customisation options. While the rebound damping is adjusted in the tried-and-tested manner at the base of the shock absorber, the compression adjustment on the reservoir with an extended range for the separately tuneable damping in the high and low-speed range offers a huge adjustment range for precise and reproducible individual setups.
Manual adjustment of the shock absorber with the easily accessible adjustment elements is much more precise than setting the damping characteristics by selecting from the predefined riding modes, as is the case with electronic suspension systems.

BMW F 900 GS
MORE SPRING STROKE FOR BMW F 900 GS - SIZE MATTERS
The new Extreme2 suspension kit for the BMW F 900 GS provides a full 20 millimetres more suspension travel and a noticeable increase in ground clearance.
Significantly lighter, super-slim and easy to handle, the F 900 GS issues an irresistible invitation to a brisk off-road ride from the very first contact. Thanks to the 21-inch front wheel and solid spring stroke at the front and rear, the GS does a decent job away from tarmac roads.

Conceived as a compromise solution for an extremely wide range of applications and designed for a wide variety of riders, the standard material also quickly reaches its limits on the F 900. For all those who are looking for adventure with their GS - whether on a rally or an off-road trip - Touratech Suspension offers top-class suspension with the Extreme2 range of suspension elements. And now the developers have gone one step further. In response to popular demand from ambitious off-road and rally riders, the Extreme2 suspension strut is now available with 20 millimetres more spring travel. This brings numerous advantages. The increased ground clearance is obvious.
However, the longer working travel also enables optimised tuning, which offers an even smoother response with unchanged high damping qualities. To maintain the balance of the vehicle, the extended spring strut is only available as a set with a specially adapted Cartridge Kit Extreme for the fork. Like the shock absorber, the cartridge also offers the full range of adjustment options for spring preload, rebound and compression damping.
Even though Touratech is targeting off-road enthusiasts with this top-class shock absorber, it still has a general operating licence (ABE).
